According to National Association of Manufacturers, by taking advantage of
low payroll costs, flexible workforce (in terms of almost infinite labor pool
and motivated workers), improving logistics infrastructures, and reliable and
high quality suppliers in China, U.S. companies are able to cut down overall
product costs significantly, even after logistics costs and tariffs are factored
in. Although offshore manufacturing in China offers significant savings,
companies need reliable Chinese manufacturers to realize those savings.
Problems facing offshore manufacturing include pricing control (quote analysis, price adjustment due to exchange rate, shipping cost and material price change), quality assurance (vendor audit, inspection, liability), meeting schedule (minimize the delay due to production issues or shipping/custom), and IP protection (NDA enforcement and vendor's legal responsibility).
